General Guidelines for Class / Group Use of Classrooms and CLC Computers
The Library provides several computer facilities for use by Â鶹¹ÙÍø classes and other groups. These include classrooms 204A & B, Room 309, and the Microforms and Media (M&M) area. All of these areas are for instruction and research related to information literacy.
Rooms 204A & 204B are reserved for Â鶹¹ÙÍø class instruction focusing on information literacy. Instructors or Library staff should reserve these rooms with the Section Head, Instruction and Assessment.
Room 309 is configured for lecture format with a single instructor’s workstation. However, the Library is “wired for wireless” and students can use their own PCs or borrow wireless laptops from the Collaborative Learning Center (CLC) to use in room 309. Instructors or Library staff may reserve room 309 by contacting the Section Head, Instruction and Assessment.
When an instructor reserves a Library computer facility, the Section Head, Instruction and Assessment will inform the relevant subject specialist. The subject specialist will contact the instructor to offer their assistance and support.
The CLC Coordinator should be contacted regarding special equipment needs.
Class/group instruction should not be conducted in the CLC area as it disrupts the activities of other CLC users. When unannounced Â鶹¹ÙÍø groups are observed using the CLC, CLC and/or other public service staff should inform them that:
- Professional assistance and interactive classrooms are available for formal information literacy instruction, or
- Library staff is available to informally work with the instructor in support of their activities and a classroom can be provided to do so. If they wish to work independently, they should be directed to M&M.
M&M may be used by Â鶹¹ÙÍø and outside groups requiring computers in support of their activities in the Library. This location also allows for intra-group discussion and collaboration. While reservations are not required they are recommended so users are assured of the availability of this facility. Reservations should be made with the Section Head, Instruction and Assessment.
Please note:
- Non-Â鶹¹ÙÍø classes or other groups should always be directed to the M&M area.
- These Library facilities are not meant to substitute for “regular” instructional facilities elsewhere. They are not to be reserved on an ongoing basis by faculty for use as a classroom during the semester.
