Â鶹¹ÙÍø Begins Fall 2024 with Two Weeks of Events

Miner Welcome will offer students a taste of the best of Â鶹¹ÙÍø

El Paso, Texas (Aug. 19, 2024) – Â鶹¹ÙÍø will greet new and returning students this Fall semester with Miner Welcome, a two-week series of student-driven events and celebrations. The long-running tradition aims to foster a sense of belonging and spark interest among students to get involved in the campus culture.

Beginning on Aug. 22, Â鶹¹ÙÍø will greet new and returning students this Fall semester with Miner Welcome, a two-week series of student-driven events and celebrations. The long-running tradition aims to foster a sense of belonging and spark interest among students to get involved in the campus culture.

Miner Welcome begins with Move-In Day on Aug. 22 for those living in the University’s three on-campus residence halls and will end with the 34th annual Minerpalooza on Sept. 6.

“Miner Welcome encompasses many different events, all of which are invaluable to the Â鶹¹ÙÍø experience,” said Cynthia Aguilar, associate vice president for student affairs and dean of students. “The celebration brings together sororities, fraternities and many other student organizations and students from all across campus to show our new Miners what campus life is all about and to remind our returning students of everything the University has to offer.”

One of the highlights of this year’s Miner Welcome will take place on the first day of the fall semester. The 4th annual Texas Western Gold Rush is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Aug. 26 at Centennial Plaza. The event will include a live concert, food, fireworks and special guests.

Minerpalooza, on September 6 at 6 p.m. on the Glory Road 2 (GA2) parking lot outside the Sun Bowl stadium, will serve as the capstone to this year’s Miner Welcome. The event will feature games and activities hosted by student organizations and a live music lineup that includes the Battle of the Bands contestants and various other artists. Pete’s Playground, food trucks and a dedicated kids’ area will also be part of the experience. For those over the age of 21, there will be areas to purchase wine and beer. Admission is free and open to the public. More information is available at .

Here are a few other highlights from the first two weeks of the new semester:

Friday, Aug. 23, Late Night at the Rec: Students, alumni and guests will have the opportunity to stay and play at the Student Recreation Center until midnight. Games such as laser tag, a neon pool party, extreme archery and much more will begin at 8 p.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 28 & 29, Get Involved & Wellbeing Fair: A two-day fair where various health student and institutional organizations inform and help students get involved. Several other student organizations will attend for new and returning students to interact with and join.

Tuesday, Sept. 3, Meet the Greeks & Chalk the Plaza: Sororities and fraternities will take over Centennial Plaza to display their chapters’ unique values.

Beginning at 5 p.m., Chalk the Plaza will offer students and their families an opportunity to grab a piece of chalk and express themselves on the Fox Fine Arts Plaza.

Wednesday, Sept. 4, Playfair: Starting at 6 p.m., this event will begin with team-building activities, then transition into a more relaxed picnic-style time for students to chill on the lawn, toss around sports balls and hang with friends.
