Jose M. Avila became a teacher to help high school students be critical thinkers who can communicate effectively. He enrolled in the MAT program to become a dual credit teacher. The El Paso native said the experience deepened his knowledge, which allowed him to tweak lessons to make them more relevant to today’s students. He said the degree gave him the tools to continue to grow as an educator.
Our alumni thrive as expert middle and high school English instructors who may seek certification to teach dual-credit courses. In secondary schools, they can be promoted to department/campus leaders, develop curriculum and mentor novice teachers.
