Gina Zavala Alvarado’s fascination with how science relates to materials was nurtured at Â鶹¹ÙÍø, an institution with metallurgical and materials origins. Zavala Alvarado was a top student who was active in the classroom as well as with student organizations, and was Â鶹¹ÙÍø’s first recipient of the Ellwood Group's prestigious Metallurgy Scholarship. She will seek a doctorate after completing her master's.
Materials engineers will design uses for new materials both in traditional industries, such as aerospace manufacturing, and in industries focused on new medical or scientific products. Graduates of metallurgical and materials engineering often pursue careers in industries such as oil and gas, R&D, aerospace, primary metals, and biomedical components.
