Kinesiology Career Pathways
- Research in Higher Education
This pathway puts students on a track towards graduate school (Masters, PhD), where they will conduct research in a laboratory setting with a team of student researchers under the direction of a faculty mentor. This pathway leads to a career in higher education (College Professor) or industry positions with a heavy emphasis on research and innovation.
Students in the Department of Kinesiology have access to research facilities that rival some of the best Kinesiology programs across the country. There are labs in Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, Strength & Conditioning and Motor Learning and Control. Faculty are always on the lookout for the next generation of graduate students that want to learn more about the field of kinesiology through research and conference travel.
Students thinking about obtaining a masters (specifically a Thesis/Research Track) or even a PhD benefit the most when they get plugged into a lab during their undergraduate years. Students interested in this pathway should first educate themselves on the uniqueness of each lab by browsing the Research Tab on the Kinesiology webpage. From there, it is recommended that the student reach out to the faculty mentor of that lab and begin the conversation about getting involved.
