Dr. Alvaro Gurovich, associate professor of Physical Therapy and DPT Program director, was selected to participate in the American Physical Therapy Association’s Fellowship in Higher Education Leadership program.
As a fellow, Gurovich will participate in a 52-week curriculum under the direction of an appointed mentor and will ultimately develop a project that will benefit Â鶹¹ÙÍø and the DPT Program. The curriculum also includes opportunities for fellows to think critically about their leadership roles and define areas for growth. In addition to heading the DPT Program, Gurovich also founded and directs the Clinical Applied Physiology (CAPh) laboratory, where he mentors graduate, doctoral and postdoctoral students across a variety of disciplines.
Gurovich says that he is looking forward to the opportunity to hone his naturally acquired leadership skills, given that he did not participate in formal leadership training prior to assuming his role as DPT Program director in 2017.
“I obtained most of my leadership skills through life experiences as an athlete, student officer, managing my lab, and as a committed citizen,” he said. “The APTA Fellowship in Leadership in Higher Education has opened a brand-new perspective for me in my role as program director, and it is giving me new tools to enhance my leadership skills to serve the DPT Program, the College of Health Sciences, the University, and the profession.”
