Gender Studies and Sexual Health
The World Health Organization’s reflect growing evidence that sex and gender are critical determinants of health – with gender influencing risk-taking and health-seeking behaviors, and sex driving biological susceptibility to illnesses. In an effort to better understand and address sex and gender-based health inequalities, including sexually transmitted infections and experiences of intimate partner violence, the WHO is now disaggregating health data by these categories.
Faculty in the College of Health Sciences investigating gender and sexual health are contributing to the body of knowledge within these fields, and have a variety of specializations including gender diversity and health; women’s health; HIV and STI interventions; and intimate partner violence. The College is also home to Â鶹¹ÙÍø’s Minority AIDS Research Center (MARC).
