How Do I Apply?
The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at The University of Texas at El Paso participates in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Centralized Application Service, known as CSDCAS. All applicants applying to the Â鶹¹ÙÍø graduate program in Speech-Language Pathology will apply online using the CSDCAS application process. You are also expected to submit your application to CSDCAS 4-6 weeks before the deadline of Feb. 1st so that your application can be verified by CSDCAS.
Applications directed to the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Graduate School will not be considered.
The program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Graduate Admission Requirements
Requirements for admission to the Master of Science degree program in speech-language pathology at The University of Texas at El Paso are based upon a holistic assessment that includes:
- Performance on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
- Grade point average (GPA) in selected upper division classes in speech- language pathology
- Letters of recommendation from faculty/health care professionals
- An interview
- Letter of intent to include professional goals
Admission to the program is competitive and the number admitted each year is based on space availability in the program. Candidates will be considered for admission on a once a year basis.
Students who do not qualify for admission may not enroll in graduate SPLP courses. No graduate courses completed prior to acceptance will count toward a master’s degree in speech-language pathology.
Application Deadline
All completed applications submitted via the CSDCAS process are considered by the SPLP Graduate Studies Committee on the following date:
February 1 st for Fall acceptance
The number of qualified applicants that can be accepted is determined prior to the review of applicants and is based on program resources. Students desiring entry to the program, but whose applications are incomplete as described by the CSDCAS application process, are not considered.
Undergraduate advisors recommend that students take the GRE two semesters prior to the Fall semester they plan to begin the graduate program and to apply for admission to the graduate school at the beginning of the Spring semester prior to entering the graduate program.
Oral English Requirement for Graduate Practicum
Any student identified by an SPLP instructor as lacking in proficient use of Standard American Oral English is scheduled for a speech evaluation in the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Speech, Hearing, and Language Clinic. Such evaluations are scheduled every semester. If speech therapy is recommended, the student’s progress is documented in writing at the end of each semester. The SPLP faculty and clinical staff review all documentation of the student’s speech-language behavior(s) and progress in therapy, as prerequisite to participation in clinical practicum.
