External Funding

Graduate students seek funding outside of the university to supplement their educational, research, and professional development efforts.

The Graduate School offers resources designed to support you in not only identifying external funding sources, but also developing competitive applications. You can find these by taking part in the Grant Writing Skills Series.

Before you apply for external funding, let us know by emailing GradFund@utep.edu. Graduate School staff are available to provide support, resources, and consultations throughout your application process.

Once you’ve secured external funding, report your award so we can laud your accomplishment!

To search for external funding sources, access the Pivot-RP database provided by the University Library. You can access many “how-to” tutorials and helpful sessions through our workshop archive.

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program expands perspectives through academic and professional advancement and cross-cultural dialogue. Fulbright creates connections in a complex and changing world. In partnership with more than 140 countries worldwide, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers unparalleled opportunities in all academic disciplines to passionate and accomplished graduating college seniors, graduate students, and young professionals from all backgrounds. Program participants pursue graduate study, conduct research, or teach English abroad.

During their grants, Fulbrighters will meet, work, live with and learn from the people of the host country, sharing daily experiences.  The program facilitates cultural exchange through direct interaction on an individual basis in the classroom, field, home, and in routine tasks, allowing the grantee to gain an appreciation of others’ viewpoints and beliefs, the way they do things, and the way they think. Through engagement in the community, individuals will interact with their hosts on a one-to-one basis in an atmosphere of openness, academic integrity, and intellectual freedom, thereby promoting mutual understanding..

The Archer Center’s Graduate Archer Fellowship Program was established in 2010 as a way to bring graduate students (masters, Ph.D., M.D., J.D) from University of Texas System universities to our nation’s capital. Archer Fellows have the opportunity to learn about policy making and public service through a full-time professional internship and classroom experiences. With the array of government, media, research and cultural institutions in Washington, D.C., students have unparalleled access to seasoned professionals and subject matter experts. As Archer Fellows, students utilize the skills and knowledge developed at their home campuses to address real domestic and global issues we are facing the nation today.
