Information for International Applicants
International students must provide a statement of financial support proving that they will be able to finance their Â鶹¹ÙÍø education for the first year (Fall, Spring and Summer semesters). Although such documentation is only required to guarantee funding for the first twelve months, international students are strongly encouraged to plan for funding for all their years of study at Â鶹¹ÙÍø. Offers of Teaching or Research Assistantships should be sent to the International Programs Office in order for these funds to be considered as financial support. Further questions concerning finances should be directed to the International Programs Office, 203 East Union, Â鶹¹ÙÍø, El Paso TX 79968, email intlpgm@utep.edu, telephone (915) 747-5664), fax (915) 747-5794.
I-20 forms can only be issued after an international applicant’s admission has been completely cleared and his/her financial statement has been received and processed by the University.
The time required for visa processing varies significantly. International applicants are therefore encouraged to apply for visas as early as possible. For students who have made good faith efforts to secure a visa on time, but have experienced delays that would not allow them to enroll for the semester that they were admitted for, the Physics Department policy is to allow them to defer admission to the next full academic semester. If you are such a student, please send an e-mail explaining your situation to our Graduate Program Director.
